Reinventing Old Fashioned Syrup One Bottle at a Time
#1
Hey everyone,

I’ve been exploring ways to make Old Fashioned syrup more than just a sweetener. What unusual flavors have you experimented with, like smoked fruit, spiced honey, or herbal infusions, that completely transform the drink?

I’m curious about techniques for balancing sweetness, texture, and complexity so the whiskey stays front and center. Have you discovered any homemade recipes or boutique syrups that surprised you?

I’d love to hear stories, flavor experiments, and methods that make the classic Old Fashioned feel fresh, bold, and memorable every time you sip it.

Hey, I’ve experimented with a few unique Old Fashioned syrups that really change the cocktail. One favorite is smoked cherry and vanilla syrup. Roasting cherries and infusing with vanilla adds depth without overpowering the whiskey. Another is a rosemary and honey syrup, which gives herbal brightness and complexity. For balance, I keep the syrup slightly less sweet than normal and use bitters and a twist of citrus to lift the flavors. Using these techniques, you can really elevate your old fashioned cocktail syrup. Small batch maple syrup with smoked oak notes is also incredible if you want a bold, warm variation. It’s all about experimenting in small batches and tasting as you go.
